Who Is Prone To Stress Fractures?

Many runners experience the pain and inconvenience a stress fracture causes the foot. Additionally, people who stand on hard surfaces for the majority of the day may be prone to this condition. When a stress fracture forms, gradual cracks in the bone may occur, caused by repetitive overuse. Research has indicated that women may be more susceptible to developing a stress fracture. This may be a result of bones that have been weakened by osteoporosis. How Are They Caused?

  • Lack of Nutrients – A lack of vitamin D and calcium may weaken the bones and make you more prone to stress fractures
  • Weak Bones – Osteoporosis can weaken the bones therefore resulting in stress fractures
